The Door Creaks

A fifteen-year-old girl moves to the country with her mother and younger brother for a fairy-tale fresh start only to discover her new stepfather is a monster. Isolated in an unfamiliar rural community, she must protect her little brother and find a way for them both to escape.

Every night, Lily tells her younger brother Luke a bedtime story about a princess, a king, and a shadow in the woods. What she never tells him is that the story is real — a code built one bedtime at a time for the night they'll finally need it.

The Door Creaks is a psychological horror-thriller that confronts the evil of child abuse from the perspective of the child, wrapped in a fairy-tale metaphor — bringing light to the shadows so the monsters have nowhere left to hide. It's Pan's Labyrinth in the rural South: the horror is completely real, the magic is survival, and the monster has been welcomed at the table for years.
