Fill The World With Stories

Friday Writings - Sleep

For this week’s Friday writings I’m dipping into the vault and pulling out one of the first scripts I wrote out of college. It was part of a competition where we had a prompt for the first few lines of dialogue and the last few and had to write everything in between. At the time I figured this would be a cute story that played on the circular nature of arguments and somewhat subverted expectations.

We actually produced it as well, and that circular argument theme was mirrored in the blocking, and if you want to see what that looks like, I’ve included a link at the bottom of this post.

Is this the sort of film I would write today? Probably not, I’ve come a long way since then. But there’s plenty there that is fundamental to how I pace a scene, how I structure conflict, and how I approach a writing assignment. I suspect this is a pretty good example of my style, albeit a very unrefined version.

Hope you enjoyed it! I’ll probably upload sections from a few more things in my back catalogue over the next few weeks. The script I’m working on now is not really one I can share yet, but I’ll try to sprinkle in some other short content that’s new as I go!
