Friday Writings - Doors Part 1

Hello everyone!

I apologize for not keeping up with this series over the last two weeks. For one of them I was traveling, for the other I was running all over putting out small fires that kept cropping up. But today I’m back, seated at my nearest coffee shop and plugging away at a psychological horror script that is as fun to write as it is difficult.

However, for now I’m sharing one of my past works. “Doors.” It’s actually a favorite of mine. For a few years now I’ve been fascinated by what doors can represent in a screenplay. They’re often viewed as portals or passageways, sometimes viewed as barriers, but in this case I’m exploring the use of doors as a reflection of the individual behind them, their openness or closed-ness. Their willingness to connect, or to reject.

So in this section let’s meet our main characters, and over the next weeks I’ll take you on a journey that explores the connections that are waiting for us on the other side of every door.

As you can probably gather, Emma and Trevor have a long way to go, but that’s for another week. Drop a comment and let me know if you like our characters and what you think is about to play out between them. Next Friday I’ll post the next beat!

Collins White

Collins Abbott White is a story-driven director, director of photography, and editor born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. While he always had a passion for the arts from drawing to acting and everything in between, he made his debut in film directing a short Star Wars spoof in high school titled “School Wars.” Since then, he received his Master’s Degree in Film and Video Production and founded Other Vision Studios in 2011.

Whether directing or filming, his passion lies in bringing stories to life that challenge people’s unconscious beliefs. With the elements of complex character development, aesthetically creative visuals, and worthwhile plotlines, he’s satisfied when the audience leaves with a sense of responsibility for their impact on the world.

Outside of work, you can find him rewatching and quoting A New Hope, cheering for Manchester United, or keeping up with the latest WWE match.
